The study entitled "The Effects of Tamarind (tamarindus indicus, Linn.) Leaf Meal Ration as Feed Supplements on the Growth Performance of Broiler" was conducted at the Don Severino Agricultural College Poultry Projects, Indeng, Cavite from November 1986 to January 1987 to determine the effects of tamarind leaf meal ration on the growth performance of broilers and to know the possible benefits in terms of monetary returns that could be obtained in using tamarind leaves as feed supplements,

The experiment covered a period of 8 weeks which was divided into two phases: the initial 4-week period and the experimental period. The chicks were subjected to three treatments and control. The treatment was replicated three times with 3 birds per treatment.

The leaf meal wes used to supplement the commercial mash at the following rate: T, - control, T, - 90% commercial mash plus 10% tamarind leaf meal, T3- 70% commercial mash plus 50% tamarind leaf meal. All treatments received equal care and management through- out the duration of the study.

Birds in the control gave the highest mean weight of 1.32 kg and was significantly higher in production compared to the birds supplemented with tamarind leaves. As of monetary returns, there is no benefits that-.could be obtained in using tamarind
leaves as feed supplements.

With these findings, the author can not recommend the use of tamarind leaf meal as feed supplements for broilers, :
