This study primarily aimed to isolate and identify& bacteria, molds, and yeast
contaminating the in vitro coffee cultures. Three sets of contaminated in vitro coffee cultures
were collected from Research Center. Batch 1 consisted of Apical Buds and Flower Buds:
batch 2 were purely Apical Buds and batch 3 was a combination of Apical and Leaf buds.
A total of 112 isolates were obtained from the 3 batches of contaminated in vitro coffee
cultures. Fifty-three were found to be bacteria, 55 were molds and 4 were yeasts.
Bacterial isolates were identified as Staphylococcus, Micrococcus, Erwinia,
Cellulomonas, and Enterobacter. Molds were identified as Acremonium, Paecilomyces,
Penicillum, Scopulariopsis, Aspergillus, Fusarium and Wangiella. Yeast isolates were found to
be Rhodotorula and Trichosporon.
