Introduction -- Structures of fungi -- Organisms of fungus ecology -- Ecosystems functions of fungi -- Fungi as human pathogens -- Mushroom -- Mycology -- Diseases of fungi.

"Fungi are living organisms that are distantly related to plants, and more closely related to animals, but rather different from either of those groups. Mycology is the study of fungi-it is a branch of biology. A micologists studies fungi’s genes, biochemical properties, their use to us as a resource of food, their hallucinogenic, poisonous and pathogenic (ability to cause disease) properties. It was not until the 16th century, when the microscope was develop, that mycology became a well established science. The structures of fungi are microscopic and not visible to the naked eye. Some are unicellular like yeast, but most string their cells together in long, thread-like strands called hypha. Most fungi produce an extensive system of hyphae, which may be visible when growing thickly in a mass called mycelium (commonly referred to as mould). mycelium can be of any size from tiny clusters to massive acre wide systems, which effectively from the feeding and growing body of the fungus. This book blends information on classical fundamental aspects with recent development in fungal systematics. The textbook of fungi presents information on the morphology, life cycle and their economic uses in human life. Special attempt has been made on the biological activities of the microbial products."--Back cover
