This entrepreneurial project in backyard hog fattening was conducted at Luksuhin, Ibaba Alfonso, Cavite from December 11, 2018 to March 22, 2019. The project aimed for the student entrepreneur to gain additional practical knowledge in swine production, assess the profitability of hog fattening enterprise and gain profit.
The project consisted of four fattening hogs accorded with proper care and management for 102 days. The hogs with an initial body weight of 17.50 kg ended up weighing an average of 90.50 kg with an average daily gain of 583.33 g. Each hog consumed 200 kg of feeds with an average feed conversion ratio of 2.73.
At the end of the project the actual total production cost was P 37,192.00 and the total sales was P 42,876.00 garnering a net income of P 5,683.28. The return on investment (ROI) was 15.28 percent and breakeven point by weight was 78 kg.
