The study was conducted in Kawit and Noveleta, Cavite from November 2010 to February 2011 to establish basic information regarding aquaculture production systems. Specifically, it aimed to: (1) determine the types of aquaculture production systems in Cavite; (2) characterize the existing systems and practices; and (3) identify the problems that are of engineering importance. The types of production systems in Kawit are ponds and cages while in Noveleta, all are ponds. Almost half of the respondents (47.62%) use extensive level of production with milkfish and shrimp (49.21%) as cultured species. The rest culture either milkfish or shrimp only on ponds. Groupers are cultured on cages. Problems identified were poor water quality, inadequate maintenance of ponds, lack of equipment and facilities to improve water quality and use of traditional methods.
