The study was conducted primarily to evaluate the response of selected asparagus cultivars to different animal manure in terms of growth and spear production. Specifically, the study aimed to identify the most appropriate animal manure for asparagus and evaluate its effect on the growth and yield of the different asparagus cultivars.

Results showed that among the three cultivars of asparagus used, Mary Washington
significantly produced the highest number, weight and diameter yield of spears. The lowest number, weight (g), diameter (mm) and yield (kg/ha) of spears were observed on Tainan No. 1. Insignificant result was observed on the effect of cultivar on the percent survival and height increment (cm) of three cultivars of asparagus.

Among the animal manure used in the study, chicken manure produced the highest number of spears, the heaviest harvested spears and the highest yield per hectare. However, spears of asparagus fertilized with hog manure significantly improved in diameter compared to others. Asparagus plants applied with horse manure and cattle manure produced the smallest diameter and number of spears. Likewise, application of goat manure gave the lowest weight of spears.

Results also revealed that among the treatment combinations used, Mary Washington fertilized with chicken manure remarkably gave the highest number, weight and diameter of spears.
