The farm practice was conducted at the Don Severino Agricultural College (DSAC) from September to December iin 1989 this aimed to help the student acquire skills managing a small agricultural income generating project by intercropping mongo with glutinous corn.
A 2,500 square meter lot was used for the project. It was plowed and harrowed twice at an interval of one week. Immediately after the last harrowing, furrows were set at a distance of 50 cm apart. Mongo seeds (Pag—asa 5 Variety) were planted at a distance of 35 cm apart between hills, while the glutinous corn seeds, at a distance of 25 cm between hills. Split application of Urea fertilizer was at a rate of 300 kg./ha .
Aphids (Aphis Cracevora) were observed attacking the plants seven weeks after planting and they were controlled by the application of Folidol at weekly interval at the rate of two tablespoons per gallon of water.
Seven thousand one hundred twenty corn ears were harvested after 75—89 days after planting. They were marketed at 050 per ear. On the other hand, mongo was harvested 65 days after planting 0 The first harvest was on November 24, 1989, and the second was done five days after. Forty-five gantas of mongo was obtained from the project . This was sold at ?50.00 per gantas.
The gross income for corn was while for mongo, 2,250.00. 'Ihe project obtained a total gross sale of After deducting the total expenses (e.g., direct inputs and labor), the project obtained a net income of , 995.00.
