The project "Production of Macapuno Corn Variety IT-tercropped with Newly Planted Papaya" was conducted at Carasuchi, Indang, Cavite from August to November 1919. It aimed to further determine the possibility and profitability of growing macapuno corn intercropped with newly planted papaya; to put into practice the technical information learned by the student in maximizing the production of macapuno corn when intercropped with papaya. It also aimed to determine the cost and return of producing macapuno corn when intercropped with papaya.
An area of 1,000 square meter papaya plantation was fertilized after the preparation of furrows for planting. Complete fertilizer at the rate of 101 kilograms per hectare was used for corn. Weeding and cultivation were done to hasten growth of plants. Macapuno corn seed which were drilled in between newly planted papaya distanced at 75 centimeters apart were found viable. A one hundred percent germination were observed five days after planting. It took about c10 days for the plant to be ready for harvest. The fresh corn ears were directly sold to consumers right in the farm.In the farm after harvesting.
From a gross income of P1,450.00 a net income of P430.03 was realized.
