The study was conducted in various areas of Barangay Población, Makati City from
August 2018 to May 2019. The objective of the study was to identify the architectural features
and elements which are distinct only in the locale and devise the architectural design best
suited for the development plan of the district specifically: (l) Identify the distinct features of the
barangay and its cultural heritage structures from the 20th century,
(2) Enumerate the qualities of the Barangay Población, Makati that will make it most efficient
for the proposal, (3) Identify the architectural design best suited for the proposal and, (4)
Create design and planning concepts that will be most efficient for the proposed urban
redevelopment plan of the Barangay Población, Makati and (5) Provide a computer aided
model of the district. It will impart information about the unspoken cultural heritage through
reawakening the architectural elements and style in all the structures within the barangay
specifically in the D.M. Drive. Since there is no existing detailed plan for the cultural heritage
development, this study will give opportunities for the heritage conservation and other
individuals
The researchers conducted several interviews to accumulate the necessary data.
Literature relevant to the study such as city ordinances and project details were provided by the
city to support the research. The planning of the redevelopment would be focused on the
heritage district through devising concepts, structures and providing architectural guidelines
according to the zone by which the researchers would be providing prototypes to serve as basis
for future constructions. The study would be performed specifically in the D.M. Rivera Drive of
Brgy. Poblacion where houses and development would be inspired by the 20th century features
and elements which was the era when the when the town flourished.
As the researchers identified the very character of the town, which is century inspired
architecture, a guideline was developed to harmonize the design style to the existing, of which it
would serve as basis for the residents for all their future constructions and finally a development
plan which considered all design factors that made the cultural heritage themed district
functional, community friendly, economically helpful, and efficient to the users.
