A study was conducted to determine the effect of feed restriction during the rearing period on egg production and physiological aspects of lay in Commercial Single Comb White Leghorn (SCWL). A total of 96 ready-to-lay SCWL pullets under four nutritional feeding regimes viz: 1 day on, 1 day off feed - ad libitum (1.0:1.0 - AL), 1.5 days on, 1.5 days off feed - ad libitum (1.5:1.5 - AL), 1.0 day on, 1.5 days off feed - ad libitum (1.0:1.5 - AL) and ad libitum - ad libitum (AL-AL) regimes was used in the study. The pullets were randomly assigned to roll away cages at 18 weeks of age following the laying treatments in Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The restricted-reared birds were shifted to ad libitum feeding at 21 weeks of age. There were slight but not significant (P > 0.05) differences in body weight with age, hen-day egg production, feed consumption and feed conversion efficiency between birds reared under four feeding regimes. The weight, length and yolk weight of eggs laid did not vary (P > 0.05) between restricted and ad libitum reared birds. However, significantly (P < 0.05) higher yolk score was obtained from restricted-reared birds than full fed ones. Follicular growth was similar (P > 0.05) between feeding regimes.
