The study sought to determine how necessary is the establishment of a web page for BAMC students at Cavite State University. Specifically, it aimed to determine the following:
medium for information preferred by BAMC students, the level of awareness of BAMC students in terms of using a web page and the Internet, the percentage of BAMC students who are favor in the establishment of a web page, the advantages, and disadvantages in having a web page as perceived by the respondents and the features of the web page as preferred by the respondents.
Descriptive research was utilized to determine how necessary the establishment of a web page for BAMC students is. Survey questionnaire and interview guides were used. A focus group discussion was also conducted to determine the need for a web page of BAMC students. Statistical tools such as mean, percentage and frequency counts were used in analyzing and treating the data gathered. All data were gathered from December 2010 to February 2011 at Cavite State UniversityMain Campus.
Six out of ten faculty members of the Department of Languages and Mass Communication were the respondents in the focus group discussion and 172 BAMC students were the representative sample for the survey. For the survey, 172 out of 180 BAMC students answered the questionnaires. After the conduct of the study, it was found that majority of the BAMC students, (98.3%) are in favor of establishing a web page; while majority of the faculty members who attended the FGD agreed in the establishment of a web page. It was also found that BAMC students mostly preferred television as a medium for information gathering. It was also revealed that the majority of the respondents are aware in using the web page and Internet. Survey results also revealed that the majority of the respondents preferred being updated as the most advantageous attributes in having a web page while virus threat as the most disadvantage. In terms of features, for Area A(student reminders), announcements within the BAMC program were preferred to be included in the Web page. In terms of Area B (Lectures and Documents), hand-outs for the BAMC students should be included in the Web page; Area C (Contacts), faculty reminders were deemed important to be included; Area D (About the Department), KAMASKOM Organization should be included in the Web page; Area E (Admission), checklist of courses were preferred; and Area F (Extension and External Relations), seminars and workshops should be included in the Web page. Furthermore, it was revealed that it is highly necessary that a web page for BAMC students be established.
