This study was conducted to determine the flood preparedness of barangay official in the barangays along the Cañas river of Tanza, Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the a) demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the participants and their barangay; b) participants level of preparedness in terms of hazard knowledge; c) the barangay level of preparedness in terms of disaster formal and informal plans and agreements; d) level of preparedness in terms of supportive resource of the barangay official for response; e) level of preparedness in terms of initiated recovery plans/ or measure; g) the participants reason for preparing or not preparing for disaster in their areas.
The study used a descriptive research design. A total of 80 barangay officials in selected barangays of Tanza, Cavite served as the participants of the study. Data were gathered using a seven- part survey questionnaire. It was found that there were some barangays officials who were not prepared because of many of them lacked trainings on events during calamities while others were prepared because they had training skills of BDRRMC, community preparedness, planning, adequate equipment lesson from the past disasters.
Barangay Officials in the selected barangays of Tanza Cavite were mostly males, in their 40's to 50's, married, and had high school level of education. Most of the officials had 36.3 percent years in service. Furthermore, the level of preparedness of barangay officials of selected barangays of Tanza, Cavite was very high in terms of hazard knowledge, formal and informal plans agreement, supportive resource acquired for response activities and life and safety protection and average level of preparedness in terms of initial recovery.
