This study is entitled "Health Literacy of Young Adult and Responsiveness in the Risks of
Obesity amidst COVID-19 Situation in a Selected City of Cavite". As the title implies, this
research will solely focus on the association between the health literacy of young adults and
responsiveness in the risks of obesity. It was conducted from February 2021 to April 2022,
during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, the data gathering procedures were conducted
using Google Forms. A validated questionnaire was administered to respondents under the
inclusion criteria. Moreover, in order to generate findings relevant to the context of this study, the
researchers will be using several statistical techniques such Frequency and Percentage,
Median for Ungrouped Data, Mann-Whitney U Test, Krukal-Wallis H Test, and Somers’s Delta.
Upon statistical processing of collected data, the researchers found out that the result of Mann
Whitney U test (334.500 p=0.641) has no significant relationship between health literacy and
responsiveness in the risks of obesity when grouped according to sex. However, when they are
grouped according to their educational attainment, there is a significant relationship between the
two variables based on the test result of Kruskal-Wallis (11.866 p=0.008). Furthermore, based
on the findings of Sommer’s D (0.450 p=0.000), there is a moderate positive correlation
between the two variables. Hence, there is a significant association between health literacy of
young adults and their responsiveness in the risks of obesity. In the hopes of a better research
environment in the future, the researchers suggested conducting the study using the traditional
pen-and- paper questionnaire administration. The researchers also proposed that this research
may be repeated in another setting but with a larger number of respondents. Future researchers
must conduct a more systematic method to come up with more representative and generalized
results.
