The study aimed to identify the pollen sources of honeybees, A mellifera L.; to determine the quantity of the pollens collected and their monthly percentage composition; and to prepare a bee pollen calendar for Indang, Cavite.
Two sites were selected within the vicinity of Indang: Barangay II and Cavite State University. Two colonies from each site were used as sampling units. Pollen traps were placed and collected weekly. Samples were acetolyzed, mounted in slides and photographed.
The major sources of pollen for Indang colonies were identified as Mimosa pudica, Mimosa invisa, Cocos nucifera , Mikania cordata, Coleus blumei, Acacia nilotica, Helianthus annuus, Psidium gucyava, Coffea arabica, Ipomoea triloba, Solarium wencilandii, Mangifera indica, Passiflora sp., Coccinea grandis, Nandina sp., Veitchia rriUi, Palmae Sp. 1, and an unidentified species. Percent compositions of pollen loads were determined. It was noted that majority of the pollen came from Mimosa pudica, Mikania cordate, and Veitchia merrili. Fluctuations in composition occured throughout the year due to seasonal availability of pollen
