Twelve weaners were used in a study to determine which among three different levels of commercial antibiotic (Stafac 50*) would give the best performance of swine in terms of growth rate, feed consumption, feed conversion efficiency and monetary return.
Four treatments were used in the study: Ti - control (no supplementation); T2 - 15 grams of antibiotics were added to feeds; T3 - 20 grams of antibiotics were added to feeds and T4 - 25 grams of antibiotics were added to feeds.
Hogs supplemented with 25 grams of antibiotic had the highest body weight of 75.33 kg., feed consumption of 175.50 kg and FCE of 2.85 kg. However, insignificant differences (P>0.05) were observed.
The total cost of production was P10,283.50, P10,360.05, P10,676.00 and P10,788.50 for Treatments I, II, III and IV, respectively.
A net income was recorded at ₱2,441.50 for Treatment I, ₱2,484.95 for Treatment II, ₱3,006.00 for Treatment III and ₱3,725.50 for Treatment IV. A ROI of 22.00, 24.00, 28.00 and 35.00 percent were recorded for Treatments I, II, III and IV, respectively.
Although the results were insignificant, it could be concluded that supplementation of antibiotic at 25% is profitable.
