Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2011. Adviser: Dr. Adelaida E. Sangalang

This study was conducted from April 2010 to July 2010 at the Department of Medical Technology, College of Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of jackfruit seed extract as alternate type B sera.

Pure and diluted jackfruit seed extract was tested in prepared red cells from volunteers with blood types “A”, “B”, and “O”. The experiment was arranged in Complete Randomized Design with 11 treatments done in three trials. The level of blood agglutination was compared using Kruskal-Wallis test.

Result showed that jackfruit seed extract caused significant agglutination using pure extract and the diluted one part extract: two parts ethanol kept at room temperature from the three blood types.

However, it cannot be used as alternative type “B” sera for blood type “B” because it also caused agglutination in blood types “A” and “O”.
