NOVA, LEA JERMOZA GALEON, "GROSS AND MICROSCOPIC ANATOMY OF THE TESTIS OF MUSKY FRUIT BAT (Ptenochirus jagori) AND COMMON SHORT-NOSED FRUIT BAT (Cynopterus brachyotis)". Undergraduate Thesis. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2003. Adviser: Louella Maria A. Custodio, DVM.
The study described the gross and microscopic anatomy of the testis of Ptenochirus jagori and Cynopterus brachyotis using three adults for each species. The gross features resembled that of most mammals. It is an ovoid body encapsulated by the tunica albuginea and oriented cranio-caudally. It was half enclosed in the scrotum and the rest was situated in the inguinal region. There were no differences in the length, width and diameter of the left and the right testis of Ptenochirus jagori bats as well as in Cynopterus brachyotis bats. Between species, the testis of Ptenochirus jagori was larger than Cynopterus brachyotis.
The histological features of the testis of Ptenochirus jagori resembled that of the domestic animals. The seminiferous tubules were populated with spermatogenic cells and sustentacular or Sertoli cells. However, only the spermatogonia and primary spermatocytes were observed from the Cynopterus brachyotis bats.
