Cervantes, Grace P. Applied Research IV (Agri-Science Curriculum), Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite. March 1994. "Effect of Sweet Potato
(Ipomoea batatas) and Coconut Water as Supplement for Broiler Ration". Adviser : Mr. Erano C. Esguerra.
This study was conducted at Indang, Cavite from August 3, 1994, to October 3, 1994 to determine the effect of sweet potato and coconut water as supplement for broiler ration and to determine the right level of supplementation that would give best result for broilers.
Six treatment groups were used having levels of supplementation as follows: TO control (pure commercial feeds); Tl - 10% sweet potato supplement + 90% commercial feeds; T2 - 20% sweet potato supplement + 80 % commercial feeds; T3 - 30% sweet potato supplement + 70% commercial feeds; T4 - 40% sweet potato + 60% commercial feeds; T5 - 50% sweet potato + 30% commercial feeds. All treatment groups were given 50% level of coconut water.
The result revealed that the best level of supplementation was 40% sweet potato supplement + 60% commercial feeds. This treatment was the best in terms of weight, gain in weight and feed conversion efficiency. It was also found out that at increasing level of supplementation, a lower amount of feeds will be needed to obtain a corresponding kilogram of meat. This supplement had no effect on mortality or toxicity. The poorest result, however, was obtained in the control which were fed with pure commercial feeds.
