The study was conducted from November 14, 2006 to February 20, 2007 to enable the student to apply her gained knowledge in Business Management to the actual operation of the firm. It also aimed to describe the policies and procedures employed by the firm, describe the different activities in the Purchasing Department and identify problems encountered and future plans of the firm. Data were gathered through observations, actual participation in different activities and personal interview with some of the personnel about the company's future plans and company's problem. Industrial Galvanizers Corporation of the Philippines is a manufacturer of steel poles and hot dip galvanizing and engineered steel products and produced world-class steel products.
The company adopted line and staff organizational structure in which the line signifies to initiate and carry through activities of the activities. The company also has particular policies and practices with regards to working hours, overtime, basic pay, safety, absences and hiring process. They motivate employees by giving incentives like 13th month pay, bonus, vacation/sick leave, free meals and funeral assessment. The firm faced a problem on high expenses and lower sales. Some of their suppliers hold their orders because of delayed payment of the company that caused delays in delivery of items to the customers.
The trainee was exposed to filing, encoding/typing, receiving job order, photocopying and answering transferred calls, sending fax, purchase order, quotation and making of transmittal to the Finance Department of the firm.
