The study entitled "Factors Associated with Diabetes Mellitus and Treatment types among residents of Barangay of Anuling Cerca I and Cerca II, Mendez Cavite" to reveal the factors and treatments of Diabetes Mellitus. Specifically, the study aimed: a.) describe the demographic characteristics of the respondents from the two barangays of Anuling, Mendez, Cavite in terms of age, gender, height, weight, and family medical history; b.) describe the outdoor activities engaged in by the respondents; c.) describe the lifestyles adopted by the respondents in terms of smoking, drinking and eating habits; d.) identify the facility/ies for medical consultations and treatment and the type of medications preferred by the respondents; and e.) compare the observable differences between diabetic and non-diabetic respondents in terms of demographic characteristics, outdoor activities, and lifestyle. This study utilized descriptive non-experimental type of research and correlational study to determine the observable differences of factors and treatment types among respondents with diabetes mellitus and those without the disease. A total of 40 persons of Anuling Cerca I and Cerca II served as the respondents in answering the open-ended and closed ended questionnaire of Likert Scale type.
Findings of the study revealed that gender, weight, and incidence of diabetes mellitus on family member/s were the demographic characteristics that increase the incidence of diabetes mellitus among respondents from the two barangays of Muting, Mendez, Cavite. However, age, height, and onset of diabetes mellitus on respondents' family were not significant factors that increase the risk of diabetes mellitus among respondents. Also, results showed that outdoor activities such as walking, jogging, aerobics were found to have no considerable influence on the incidence of diabetes mellitus among the respondents from the two barangays of Anuling, Mendez, Cavite. Among the lifestyles adopted by the respondents, smoking habits did not have much influence on the incidence of diabetes mellitus. In terms of drinking habits, the frequency of consumption of soft drink, coffee and milk were considered as principal factors influencing the onset of diabetes mellitus amongst respondents. As to eating habits, it was established that the frequency of consumption of fatty foods, sweets, salty foods, and vegetables had a considerable effect on the onset of diabetes mellitus amongst respondents. Both diabetic and non-diabetic respondents highly preferred going to private clinics for their medical consultations and treatments. Also, both groups highly preferred commercial or over-the-counter medicines to alleviate or cure their respective illnesses or ailments. Hence, no significant differences existed in the preferred place of consultation/treatments and types of medication preferred between the respondents with and without diabetes mellitus.
