This study was conducted to determine the personality traits of the paternally-attached and maternally-attached late adolescents in relation to the personality traits of their parents. Specifically, it aimed to: 1) determine the demographic profile of the paternally-attached and maternally-attached late adolescent respondents in terms of age, gender, and birth order; 2) determine the personality traits of the parent respondents with respect to general activity, ascendance, sociability, emotional stability, and masculinity/feminity; 3) determine the personality traits of the late adolescent respondents with respect to general activity, ascendance, sociability, emotional stability, and masculinity/feminity; 4) determine the significant influence of the parents' personality traits on the personality traits of paternally-attached and maternally-attached respondents; and 5) determine the significant difference between personality traits of the paternally-attached and maternally-attached late adolescents.
The study made used of descriptive design using questionnaires to determine if the late adolescents are attached to their mothers or fathers and to determine the personality traits of the late adolescent respondents and parent respondents. Descriptive statistics such as frequency counts and percentages were used in determining the demographic profile and personality traits of the parent respondents and late adolescent respondents. Chi-square test was used in determining the significant influence of the parents’ personality traits on the personality traits of the paternally-attached and maternally-attached respondents. Chi-square test was also used to determine the significant difference between personality traits of paternally-attached and maternally-attached late adolescents.
The study involved one hundred ninety-nine (199) late adolescent respondents, one hundred ninety-nine (199) mothers and one hundred ninety-nine (199) fathers of the late adolescent respondents with a total of five hundred ninety-seven (597) respondents from Poblacion I, II, III, IV, and V in Alfonso, Cavite. The result of the study shows that there is significant influence of the parents' personality traits on the personality traits of the maternally-attached late adolescent respondents while on the other hand, personality traits of parents has no significant influence to the personality traits of the paternally-attached late adolescents. In addition, there is no difference between the personality traits of the paternally-attached and maternally-attached late adolescents.
