A farm practice on tissue culture of banana ('Lakatan') was conducted at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist-Cavite from November 17, 2008 to February 19, 2009. This farm practice aimed to develop skills in propagation of banana through tissue culture and to gain experience in the care of banana plantlets propagated through tissue culture.
The activities performed by the student in her farm practice included both laboratory and nursery activities. Laboratory activities included preparation of stock solution, preparation of media for initial and proliferation stages, preparation of rooting media, and sub culturing of plantlets and nursery activities included potting out, watering of plantlets and soil bagging. The farm practice enabled the student to improve her skills in the field of horticulture. The student was able to apply her gained knowledge and skills from classroom setting to actual working conditions. It gave the student hands-on experiences on tissue culture of banana which are very important for her future employment.
