EUSEBIO, RAZEL ANN JOYCE M., GARCIA, DOREEN YSABELLE E., and QUIOCO, MEI CHARMAINE R. Extraction of sugar Palm (Arenga Dinnata) Fibers Using Defibrator and Traditional Method. A Research Study (General Science Curriculum). Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2011. Adviser: Dr. Lilibeth P. Novicio.
The study "Extraction of Sugar (Arenga pinnata) Fibers Using Defibrator and
Traditional Method" aimed to: 1) determine the extracting recovery of the defibrator and
traditional method and 2) compare the extracted fibers of defibrator from extracted fibers of the traditional method in terms of tensile strength, capacity and fibers produced which includes length and weight. This study was conducted at Masa Ecological Development Inc., Carasuchi, Indang, Cavite and Cavite State University's Kaong Conservation Project.
There were two treatments used with three replications each. The first treatment is the extracted fibers using traditional method and the other treatment is using the Defibrator. The
statistical test used is the T-test to compare two different means.
The different properties of the extracted fibers using the two different methods were compared in the study. The properties include extracting recovery, length, weight and tensile strength. The extracting recovery of the traditional method has a higher average percentage than that of the defibrator. Results of the T-test showed that the extracted fiber from the defibrator is more recommended when it comes to paper material. On the other hand, the extracted fiber using the traditional method is more recommended in tems of tensile strength. The results of T-test show that the means are all significantly different.
