The study was conducted to develop particle boards using peanut shells. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the characteristics of the particle board in terms of modulus of rupture (MOR), screw withdrawal, internal bond, water absorption, thickness swelling, moisture content,density and the best treatment that gives the best characteristics of the particle board.

The construction of the particle board was conducted in the Forest Product Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) in the University of the Philippines, Los Banos from November to December 2015. The percentage of the catalyst varied and replicated three times as follows: T; — 405g peanut shell + 405g sawdust + 5% Catalyst, T2 -- 405g peanut shell + 405g sawdust + 10% Catalyst, T3 — 405g peanut shell + 405g sawdust + 15% Catalyst. Two kilograms of peanut shell and 2 kilograms of sawdust were used in the study. Three 30 x 30 x 1.2 particle board were produced.

The test for the modulus of rupture (MOR), screw withdrawal, internal bond, water absorption, thickness swelling, moisture content and density were conducted in December 2015.

The treatment that gave the best score for the modulus of Rupture (MOR), screw , withdrawal, internal bond, water absorption, thickness swelling, and moisture content wasT's. In terms of Density, Tz has the highest mean score although all treatments are not significantly different from each other.

In general, the study revealed that peanut shells can be used as an alternative for other materials in particle board production.
