Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, November 2015. Adviser: Ms. Karen Krista M. Escobar, RMT, MSMT. <br/>The study was conducted from November to January 2016 at the Department of Medical Technology, College of Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. In this study, Diospyros discolor extracts was evaluated for its anthelminthic activity against Ascaris suum adult worms. The study aimed to (1) determine the life span of A. swan adult worm in plant extracts, (2) determine what part of the plant induced anthelminthic activity against A. swim adult worm, (3) determine the significant difference among the aqueous and ethanol extracts of the plant in the anthelminthic activity against A. suum adult worm, (4) determine which concentration of plant extracts, induced anthelminthic activity against A. suum adult worm, and (5) determine which among the concentrations of plant extracts is comparable with the commercial drug (Albendazole). Dried Mabolo (Diospyros discolor) leaves and barks were extracted using aqueous and ethanol solvent. Extracts collected were diluted to make different concentrations such as 100 percent, 50 percent and 25 percent and were tested against the adult worms. Death of worms were measured within two days with a 12-hour interval monitoring. Extracts that exhibit similar anthelminthic activity to Albendazole undergone LD5O (Lethal Dose).<br/>The experimental results revealed that varying concentration of aqueous and ethanol bark and leaf extracts of Mabolo exhibited anthelminthic activity against A. suum. Preliminary results showed that among the extracts, 100 percent ethanolic bark exhibited the highest mortality rate. The 100 percent ethanolic bark extract showed mortality rate of 58.75 percent after 12 hours, 97.50 percent'after 24 hours and 100 percent after 36 and 48 hours of monitoring. Furthermore, 100 percent mortality of A. suum adult worms in 100 percent ethanolic bark was comparable to Albendazole.<br/> |
