Descriptive method was used to find out if there was a significant relationship between self-concept and aggression among youth offenders in MSWDO Bahay Kalinga. Spearman Rank was used to measure the significant relationship between self-concept and aggression of the youth offenders. The analysis of the data that was gathered in qualitative approach to support the study was based on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). It was also used to identify the interconnected reasons why youth do those aggressive acts. In the totality of the result in both qualitative and quantitative shows that the level of self-concept among the youth offenders was at the low average and the aggression level of the respondents was moderately high, it also revealed that there was a significant relationship between self-concept and aggression among the respondents. Lastly the data gathered through the in-depth interview identified that the low socio economic status and parenting were the mostly interconnected reasons of aggressive acts that were associated
with youth offenders according to the emerging and developing themes on the transcripts.

The study revealed that self-concept affects aggression among youth offenders. Furthermore, it was found out that if a youth offender was having a level of low self-concept the more he is prone to being aggressive. The respondents of the study were the 20 youth offenders in MSWDO Bahay Kalinga Dasmarinas City, Cavite for the survey form and 10 selected youth offenders for the in-depth interview. Two survey questionnaires were the instrument used in the quantitative approach, which was validated by a statistician, first one was the self-concept rating scale which was composed of 100 items, the other one was a self made aggression test and was composed of 50 items. On the other hand, in the qualitative approach, there were 20 sets of self made questions that were used in the interview.
|
