Summary, etc. MALONZO, MARNY ALYANNA M. and ZARCENO, MICHAEL IGIE N., Gender Role Analysis Among Sugar palm Farmers at Indang, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Mr. Willie C. Buclatin

The study primarily aimed to determine and enumerate the gender roles in the various Sugar palm farming procedures at Indang, Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to evaluate the present system of Sugar palm farming within the municipality; determine what sex dominates the various procedures; associate the participants’ sex and the various Sugar palm farming procedures; and to determine what factor causes gender preference towards the different procedures. An estimate of 250 Sugar palm farmers where gathered on their first survey and observation within the area. Using Slovin’s formula, it came up with 154 participants required for the study. Random barangay where Sugar palm farming can be located were chosen for the survey. Seven (7) barangays namely: Alulod, Bancod, Daine/ Indang Habitat Village, Guyam Munti, Kayquit, Kaytambog, and Tambong Kulit were chosen as the sources of the respondents. Survey questionnaire was used to gather all the necessary data for the completion of the study. Simultaneously, observations and on the spot interviews were made for additional information.

Descriptive analysis was made to determine and explain the demographic profile of the participants such as the age, sex, marital status, and residing place. In addition, results from the descriptive analysis showed that two procedures which require strength were dominated by males, and the remaining procedure which requires less Strength was dominated by females. The analysis also explained that the most prevalent cause of gender preference towards the various Sugar palm farming procedures was their personal choice.

The study recommended that each barangay conduct a total survey to gather records regarding how many Sugar palm farmers were present per area. This could help future researchers who will be involved in the same type of study. It is also recommended to establish more organizations that can contribute to awareness and improvement of agricultural activities and gender role analysis. Providing medical assistance for the elderly who were still involved in farming procedures was also advised.
