Summary, etc.
CASTILLO, CRISTINE A. and ELEP, LOURDES AIMEE A., Waste Identification and Reduction at Reliance Apparel and Fashion Manufacturing Corporation. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April, 2015. Adviser: Ms. Mary Joyce P. Alcazar.

Manufacturing organisations are facing problems that can affect their production. A study was conducted to identify and reduce the waste in Reliance Apparel and Fashion Manufacturing Corporation using lean manufacturing. The identification and reduction of waste is the core of any supplier development activity. Waste is the enemy.

It drives costs up and quality down, and creates long lead times that slow Response to customer requirements. Waste gives no value; it only creates addition to work. An environment must be created in which everyone is encouraged and challenged to use their creative skills to eliminate all forms of waste from the work they perform.

Lean manufacturing strategies have also seen heavy use in manufacturing environments. This study considers the possibilities of participating lean manufacturing principles in order to improve system performance. The result of these study is tested and verified using a real world case study.

With the use of eight deadly wastes such as defects, over processing, waiting waste, non-value added processing, transportation waste, inventory waste, motion, and
employee/people. The primary waste of Reliance Apparel and Fashion Manufacturing Corporation is then identified. Each of eight deadly wastes was rated by twenty operators/employees to determine the primary waste that the production has been experienced. Waiting waste (idle time of operators like delay of materials, resting while at work and human unpredictable necessity) was the primary waste of the company.

Some alternative corrective actions for the methods is also used to reduce waste. The researchers developed six alternatives and concluded that the best method is to increase the productivity of the workers to avoid idle time.
