Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Depal Inient of Social Science and Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Vivian R. Ramachandran, MA <br/>This study aimed to determine the lived experiences of typhoon Yolanda survivors relocated at Isla Bonita, Rosario, Cavite during the typhoon and after the relocation. With the use of purposive sampling, six participants were involved in this phenomenological study conducted from June 2015 to January 2016 in Cavite. The researchers used a phenomenological study that employs a qualitative approach to research. The researchers used a semi-structured interview questionnaire which was composed of 44 questions with six topic outlines. Each topic outline contained: seven questions about economic and social activities; five questions about the participant's experiences after typhoon Yolanda; six questions about assistance, 10 questions under effects and life goals, and; 14 questions under challenges which were divided into economic, social, environmental, and emotional aspects. In addition to this, the researchers added two more questions to deeply understand the survivors' experiences and the lessons they learned after typhoon Yolanda's onslaught. The research revealed that during and after the typhoon, the Yolanda survivors experienced the following: desire for both selfless and self-interest survival; resiliency, which includes their recovery of consciousness and coping strategies; frustration, in the form of economic dismay and loss of faith; and; ability to adapt to new environment including economic adaption, economic aid, acceptance to new environment, contentment, and pakikisama. Furthermore, despite of the disastrous typhoon, the survivors became positive in life as they aspire for a better future for the children, acquire and strengthen their faith, renew their confidence, and become knowledgeable and ready for future calamities<br/> |
