Polinga. <br/>A polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste material size reducing machine was developed and evaluated at Cavite State University — Rosario Campus, Cavite. The principal components of the machine are the rotary blades, stationary blades, hopper, frame assembly, discharge chute, 1.5 hp single phase induction motor, belt and pulley. This study was experimental in nature and the fabricated machine was just a prototype which will serve as a model for the construction of a bigger machine of similar purposes. The performance of the machine was only limited to the evaluation of its capacity, recovery, efficiency and uniformity of the cut materials. The size reducing machine was constructed according to the design specifications but has the inability to cut materials larger than 350 mL materials and thicker than 0.5 mm. In terms of size reduction capacity, 2500 rpm had maximum capacity of 19.17 kg/hr. For the size reduction recovery, higher result was obtained in 2500 rpm with 90.41 percent. Size reduction efficiency of <350 mL PET bottles obtained a higher value of 95.30 percent compared to 12 oz plastic cups with a value 90.41 percent. Size uniformity of 12 oz plastic cups revealed a lesser mean value of 1,631.88 compared to <350 mL PET bottles with a value of 1,775.25 which means that the machine produces smaller and more uniform size for thinner materials. The total cost of the machine is P 34,753.50.<br/>
