CRUZADA, MARNELL LOYOLA. Profitability of Fruit Stands in Selected Towns of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Marketing. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2009. Adviser: Prof. Myrachael S. Nolasco.
This study was conducted in selected towns of Cavite namely: Tagaytay City, General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), Silang, General Trias, DasmariƱas, and Trece Martires City for the period December 2008 to January 2009 to describe the socio-economic characteristics of fruit stand owners, describe the characteristics of fruit stand businesses, describe the marketing practices of the fruit stand businesses, determine the profitability level of fruit stand businesses, describe the relationship between profit and socio- economic characteristics, length of operation, marketing practices, and capital of fruit stand businesses, and identify the problems encountered by fruit stand businesses. A total of 104 respondents were the respondents in the study. Data were collected through personal interviews with the aid of prepared interview schedules. Frequency, percentage, mean, range, rank, chi-square test, average cost and return analysis and profitability ratios were used to analyze the data. The age of the respondents ranged from 15-74 years old with a mean of 36 years old. Most of the respondents were high school graduates, female, and married. The range of the length of operation of the owners was two months- 50 years with a mean of eight years. Most of the fruit stands surveyed were formed as sole proprietorships. Large percentage of the respondents had Php1000.00- Php 10,900.00 initial capital when they started the business. Majority of the respondents engaged in retailing as their method of selling. Most of the owners used going rate pricing. Length of operation and capital were factors that affected the profitability of fruit stand businesses. The longer years they engaged in the business, the greater the profitability to earn a high level of profit. Likewise, the bigger the capital, the probability of increasing the level of profitability is higher. Low sales ranked first in the problems encountered by fruit stand owners. Four towns registered profits which was topped by DasmariƱas with an average annual net profit of Php184,360. GMA and Silang suffered losses in their fruit stand businesses with Silang having the greater loss at Php40,810.79. The total net profit generated by the fruit stand businesses in selected towns of Cavite was Php247,627.57.
|
