Summary, etc. DELA CRUZ, CHESTER M., BAYBAY, PHILIP M. The Psychometric Properties of Adapted Study Habits Questionnaire and the Study Habits of Students in Public High Schools. Research Study. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Research Adviser: Dr. Cecilia B. Banaag.
The study aimed to determine the psychometric properties and norms of the
Adapted Study Habit Questionnaire. In addition, it tried to determine the Study habits of the High school students in public high schools in South Cavite. Also, the study aimed to answer the following specific questions: What is the performance of high school students
in terms of the Grades in the first grading period and Scores in the standardized test? What is the validity index of the study habit questionnaire in terms of their Content validity and Concurrent validity? What is the reliability index of the study habit questionnaire in terms
of their Test-retest reliability and internal consistency reliability? What are the norms of the study habit questionnaire in terms of their percentile, stanine, and z-score?, and, What are the study habits of high school students in public high schools in South Cavite?
The study utilized descriptive correlational design. A descriptive correlational
method helps to determine if two or more variables are associated with each other by explaining their relationship. The participants of the study were the grade 9 and 10 students in public high schools in South Cavite, specifically, Alfonso National High School,
Amadeo National High School, Lumampong National High School, Anuling National High School, and Tagayatay City National High School. To determine the psychometric
soundness of the study habits questionnaire, 40 high school students were used. To establish the norm, samples of high school students were drawn from the areas under investigation.
In this study, the reliability of the Study Habit Questionnaire was determined by finding out the relationship of the first and the second score of the participants, and interitem scores of the participants. On the other hand, the validity of the questionnaire was determined by finding the relationship of the Scores in the questionnaire with the score in other tests measuring the same construct.
The first test scores of the participants had a mean score of 169.65 and a standard deviation of 17.390 and the scores on the second test of the participants have a mean score of 164.59 and a standard deviation of 17.970. It also indicates that the adopted study habits questionnaire has a high correlation coefficient which is .671 at .000 level of significance causing the hypothesis to be rejected. The participants' mean score in the study habit questionnaire was 169.65 with a standard deviation of 17.390. In the academic performance (average grade) of the students was 67.35 with a standard deviation of 4.714. The correlation coefficient of the two scales was .417 with a p-value of .018 causing the hypothesis to be rejected. Results show that the Adapted Study Habit
Questionnaire is both valid and reliable.
