DELA CRUZ, LAURENZVILL T. and PEDRON TROY ALLAN H. Development of Microcontroller-Based Digital Logic Trainer. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser. Ms. Emeline C. Guevarra.
The main objective of the project was the development of a microcontroller-based logic trainer which was primarily intended for engineering students taking logic circuit course. Specifically, it aimed to: construct the microcontroller-based circuit for the system of the trainer; develop the software of the output panel and logic gate operations; test and evaluate by conducting laboratory experiments; and conduct cost computation of the study.
The design project was composed of three panels- the output panel, basic logic board and input panel. The logic board has sixteen (16) gates where each of it has ProMini 328 where logic operation takes place. The output panel has Arduino UNO which served as the microcontroller unit, the LCD module as for displaying logic data, SD card and its shield as storage device and thermal printer for the printing of truth table. This panel was responsible for displaying, data storing, and printing of logic data. The input panel was mainly composed of input components such as switches, IC slots and
clock. This panel was used as ground and voltage source for logic circuit.
The methods used were designing and constructing the microcontroller circuit for the system and logic gates, developing software, laboratory experiments, testing and evaluation and cost computation.
x
The project was tested and evaluated at the Engineering Science Building of the College of Engineering and Information Technology. Testing was done by conducting laboratory experiments to 30 selected computer engineering students who have taken the digital system. These respondents also evaluated the study using parameters- user interaction, efficiency, accuracy, and reliability. In addition, the proponents evaluated the success rate of each logic gate to perform logic operations.
Based on the results of the evaluation, each gate can perform OR, AND, NOR, and NAND operations. The inverters complement the logic input data. The results of evaluation show that the logic trainer was acceptable to the respondents.
For further improvement, the proponents recommended to use other microcontroller with many input/output pins, develop a system that can also print Boolean algebra or logic circuit diagram, use a larger LCD, and use keypad in the part of input panel
The total cost of the design project was Php 14,485.50
|
