Undergraduate Design Project, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Engr. Efren R. Rocillo.<br/>The study was conducted from September 2014 to February 2015 at Cavite State Universtity (CVSU), Indang, Cavite to design a solar power electrical back-up system for Department of Information Technology (DIT) building in CVSU, Indang, Cavite which can be used for the electrical loads of the building. Specifically, the study aimed to: I determine the total electrical load demand of DIT building; 2. determine the important load of the building to be supplied by solar powered system; 3. determine the number, size and specification of solar panels needed for DIT building; 4. determine the size of the charge controller; 5. determine the capacity of battery needed by the building; 6. determine the size of inverter; 7. construct an electrical design for selected loads; 8. construct a scale model on Google SketchUp; and 9. estimate the cost and return analysis of the project.<br/>The design project aimed to prepare the building for the improvement in the energy saving consumption and to supply the important loads even when interruption of power occurs. With reference to the building electrical plan, the total electrical load demand was determined. The existing electrical load was established through electrical inspection. The sets of data were subjected for the selection of the important loads to distinguish the power needed by the design.<br/>The total important electrical load demand was computed to identify the size of solar panel, battery, charge controller, and inverter. Specifications of the devices were strictly considered to establish the right design for building.<br/>The electrical design for the solar electrical back-up system of the building was presented using AutoCAD 2014. One line diagram, power and lighting layout of the important electrical loads were established. The construction of the scale model was done through Google SketchUp 10 present the actual positioning of the solar panels.<br/>The estimated cost for the design of solar powered electrical back-up system project amounted PI 5,881,897.52 with a return on investment on the 13th year ofP860,587.64. |
