Cueno<br/> <br/> This study aimed primarily to 1) determine the socio—economic characteristics of coconut and rice famers; 2) determine the level of income of coconut and rice farmers; 3) determine the standard of living of coconut and rice farmers; 4) describe the difference bet ween the standard of living of coconut and rice farmers; 5) determine the significant difference between the level of income of coconut and rice farmers; 6) determine the modern farming practices employed by coconut and rice farmers; 7) determine the relationship between socio— economic characteristics of coconut and rice farmers ; and 8) determine the relationship between -standard of living and adoption of modem practices <br/>This study was conducted in some selected barrios of Dipaculao, Aurora Province, there were 100 respondents consisting of 50 coconut farmers and 50 rice farmers. The respondents were obtained based on their availability at the time of the interview.<br/>The average size of the family, size of farm, annual family income, farming experience of coconut farmers were higher than those of the rice farmers However, the rice farmers had higher Level of education, better dwellings and better toilets.<br/>Majority (68 percent) of the coconut farmers were owner operators more than one—half (66 percent) of the rice farmers were owner operators too, and all the rest were tenants. Most of the farmers lived in houses made of wood and galvanized iron sheets 0 Each of them maintained an average farm of three hectares and below. Majority of coconut farmers were low adaptors of modem farming practices while majority of the rice farmers were moderate adaptors.<br/>Fourty six percent of the coconut farmers belonged to low category owners of furniture’s and appliances while 40 percent of the rice farmers belonged to medium category owners.<br/>Socio—economic characteristics such as educational attainment, size of the family, size of the farm and tenure statue did not affect the standard of living.<br/>In general, rice fanners had better standard of living than coconut farmers . The income of coconut farmers did not differ much from the income of the rice farmers<br/> |
