Summary, etc. LEE, BOYD KENNETH S., GUARIN EZHRA M. Compliance of Staff Nurses in Safety Standard Protocol of Patients in the 0B Ward at Seven District Hospitals in
Cavite: An Assessment. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Nenita B. Panaligan, RN, MAN
The study was conducted among the seven district hospitals in Cavite to identify the compliance of staff nurses to safety standard protocol. Specifically, it aimed to: determine the demographic profile of the participants at selected district hospitals in Cavite in terms of age, sex, shift, employment status, years of experience, and hospital; determine the level of compliance of the staff nurses regarding the safety standard protocol according to universal standards; assess the level of compliance of staff nurses regarding the practice of safety standard protocol when grouped into their demographic profile; correlate the relationship between the respondents' demographic profile and their practice compliance; and to determine the significant difference on the level of compliance on patient safety standard protocol among the district hospitals in Cavite.
The study was conducted from December to March 2016 with 35 participants in each district hospitals in Cavite. The questionnaire used was adapted and modified from World Health Organization and National Safety and Quality Health Services by the researchers. Data gathered through the use of questionnaires were tallied, interpreted, and statistically analyzed. Frequency and percentage was used to present the demographic profile of the participants. Mean weight and standard deviation was used to determine the level of compliance of the participants. Chi — Square, Mann — Whitney and Kruskal Wallis was used to determine any significant difference and compare the variables. To determine the relationship between variables, Pearson — r was used.
Statistical result revealed that most of the participants were between the ages of 27 — 32 years old, female, mostly working on a. m. shift, contractual employee, with working experiences of more than five years, and working in a district hospital. Majority of the staff nurses among the seven district hospitals in Cavite can comply with safety standard protocols regardless of age, sex, shift, employment status and years of experience. Also, the researchers' observation was significantly different from how the nurses assessed and perceived themselves on their compliance to safety standard protocol. Moreover, there was a significant difference between the district hospitals and theirpractice on safety standard protocol specifically in terms of patient identification and clinical handover. And among the seven district hospitals in Cavite, result revealed that that hospital F and G ranks were significantly different from Hospital A in terms of their compliance to patient identification. Yet, hospital B, C, D, and E were not significantly different from hospital A, F, and G. Furthermore, the results also revealed that hospital G still compliant to safety standard protocol in terms of clinical hand over which was significantly different from hospital A and D. Hospital B,C, E, and F were not significantly different from hospital A, D, and G in terms of clinical handover.
Based on the findings and implication, it is recommended that patients should be aware on the existing standard regarding patient safety; further review and empower the implementation of the standard protocol in all district hospitals in Cavite; provide trainings and seminars to the health care providers on Safety Standard Protocol and evaluate their performance. For future researchers, further and extended study may be
conducted to evaluate practice compliance of the health personnel to the said protocol and identify the barriers that interfere to their compliance, utilizing various evaluators such as peers and supervisors.
