Summary, etc. RODRIN, DESIERIN, 1. Growth Performance of Broiler Chickens Subjected to Heat Stress During Summer Condition Supplemented with Vitamins A, C, and E.
Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science. Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Dr. Cristina F. Olo
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different levels of vitamin supplements on growth performance of broiler chickens reared under ambient (3 1 oc) and heat stress (340C) temperatures. Different levels of vitamin supplementation were incorporated to the feeds while the birds were subjected under ambient and heat stress condition. The treatments were: Treatment I- Control, no vitamin supplementation, Treatment II- Vitamin A, 4.5 mg/kg of feed, Treatment Ill- Vitamin C, 250 mg/kg of feed, Treatment IV- Vitamin E, 250 mg/kg of feed, Treatment V- Vitamin CE, 250 mg/kg of feed; 250 mg/kg of feed, Treatment VI- Vitamin AE, 4.5 mg/kg of feed; 250 mg/kg of feed, Treatment VII- Vitamin AC, 4.5 mg/kg of feed; 250 mg/kg of feed, and Treatment VIII- Vitamin ACE, 4.5 mg/kg of feed; 250 mg/kg of feed; 250 mg/kg of feed. The birds were distributed randomly into eight treatments replicated three times, with each replication having five birds. Ambient temperature was kept at its normal condition by using a 25 watts bulb in 20 birds, while heat stress condition was maintained at 340C for about 9 hours daily by using a 50 watts bulb per 5 birds for each replication. The temperature and relative humidity were monitored using glass thermometer and hygrometer, respectively, and recording was done at a particular times daily (6 AM; 9AM; 11:30 AM; 2 PM and 4PM)
vi
The interaction of vitamin supplementation and temperatures affected the body weight and average daily gain of birds significantly at weeks 2 and 4 only (P<0.05), while feed conversion efficiency affected significantly during week 2 only (P<0.05).
Growth performance of broiler chickens was better under vitamins A and ACE. Therefore vitamins A and ACE supplement can offer a potential protective management practice in preventing heat stress related losses in the performance of broiler chickens.
Ambient (3 1 oc) and heat stress (340C) temperatures affected the body weight, average daily gain, and feed consumption of the birds during weeks 3, 4 and 5 only (P<0.05), feed conversion efficiency affected significantly at weeks 3 and 4 (P<0.05) while dressing percentage was also affected significantly by temperatures (P<0.031). Birds exposed at ambient temperature (3 1 oc) had better performance than birds raised in heat stress (340C) conditions.
Supplementation of different levels of vitamins did not significantly affect the overall production parameters and performance of birds throughout the rearing period
(P>O.05).
