The study, "Effect of the Different Rates of Fertilizers and Methods of Placement on the Growth and Yield of Corn" was conducted at the experimental field of the Don Severino Agricultural College in Indang, Cavite from November 1984 to January 1985 e This aimed to determine the most appropriate method of fertilizer application and the amount of fertilizer that would give the highest yield and to evaluate the effects of different rates and methods of applying fertilizer on the growth and yield of corn.<br/>An area of 495090 square meters was plowed and harrowed twice and was divided into three equal blocks. Each block was further subdivided into two subs—blocks for the method of fertilizer placement and then further subdivided into smaller plots for the rate of fertilizer.<br/>Planting was done on November 9, 1984, where seeds were drilled at the distance of 40 centimeters between hills and 75 centimeters between rows.<br/>Complete fertilizer (14-14-14), Urea (45-0-0)and ammonium phosphate (16—20—0) were basally and splitty applied at different rates.<br/>The crop started to flower on December 18, 19840 It matured on January 23, 1985, or 74 days after planting, Based from the result, the effective method and rate of fertilizer to apply in corn was basal application at the rate of 120—90—60 (R) which produced the longest plants, widest leaves, heaviest weight of stalk and ears and highest computed yield.<br/> |
