Bachelor of Science in International Studies Major in Southeast Asia. Cavite State University. May 2017. Adviser: Mrs. Joan Camille P. Guevara.<br/><br/>The study was conducted to determine the demographic and socio-economic characteristic of the employees of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Vanuatu; determine their level of knowledge on decentralization system policy; direction of attitude towards decentralization system policy; perceived benefits and disadvantages of the relationship between their demographic and socio-economic characteristic of the participants and level of knowledge on decentralization system policy in Vanuatu as well as the relationship between the demographic and socio-economic characteristic of the participants and direction of attitude towards decentralization system policy in Vanuatu.<br/><br/>The participants were 79 employees of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Port-Vila, the capital city of Vanuatu. Data were gathered through an interview using a survey questionnaire. Frequency count, mean, percentage, rank, Pearson product moment Correlation Coefficient, Point Bisertal Correlation Coefficient, P-Value and Chi-Square computed were utilized to analyze and interpret the data.<br/><br/>The findings showed that the mean age of the participants was 38 years old. More than half of the participants were male, married, college graduate, considered officer and with average of 10 years in service in the government.<br/><br/>The result revealed that 65.8 percent of the participants had a high level of knowledge about the decentralization system which were those who had a long working experience in the government and 59.5 percent had favourable attitudes towards. Overall, their attitude was favourable.<br/><br/>Their educational attainment was found to be related with their direction of attitude towards decentralisation system policies in Vanuatu while their position was not related with their attitudes, their position was found to be related with their level of knowledge on decentralisation system policy in Vanuatu. The participants were significantly related with the direction of attitude towards decentralisation system policy.<br/><br/>It is recommended that the Vanuatu government should organize awareness based on the constitution mainly in the Decentralization Act (Chapter13) for the local citizens in all provinces to be aware about their rights as well as the service delivery. <br/><br/>The government should increase the decentralisation budget and give the provincial government the authority and responsibility to be independent and well developed for the welfare of the people of Vanuatu.<br/><br/> |
