Research Study (General Science Curriculum), Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2016. Adviser: Prof. Ma. Corazon V. Herrera.<br/>This study was conducted at Department of Physical Sciences, Cavite State University, Indang and Cavite State University — Science High School. Its main focus was to produce biodiesel from Physic Nut oil extract. Specifically, it aimed to (1) determine the percent yield of the oil extracted from Jatropha curcas seeds (2) determine the characteristics of the biodiesel produced from Jatropha curcas oil extract in terms of specific gravity and density, color, viscosity level, combustibility and carbon residue and<br/>(3) compare the commercial biodiesel and the produced biodiesel from Jatropha curcas oil extract in terms of combustibility and carbon residue.<br/>The physical and chemical analysis of the biodiesel was done to characterize the properties of the biodiesel. The biodiesel produced was light yellow in color and oily in appearance. Its specific gravity was 0.92 and its density was 0.92 grams per milliliters.<br/>Analysis of the oil showed that the biodiesel took 4.69 seconds to burn and an orange flame was visible. No smoke was observed during the burning process. However, soot was visible after the process. After performing the carbon residue test, it resulted to 64% wt. The result of the chemical properties from the Jatropha biodiesel was compared to the chemical properties of the commercial biodiesel as well.<br/> |
