Adviser, Miss Cecilia V. Telmo. <br/><br/> This study was conducted in six barangay demonstration laboratories of DSAC namely: Bancod, Buna Lejos, Kaytambog and Limbon in Indang, Cavite, Lumipa in Bailen and Cabuco in Trece Martires City to: 1) determine the socio-economic characteristics of farmers in the BDLs; 2) determine the farm production and income of farmers in the BDLs; 3) compare the farm production and income of farmers before and after implementation of DSAC Out- reach Program; 4) determine the impact of DSAC Outreach Program on farm income of farmers in BDLs; and 5) identify the problems encountered by the farmers. A total of 64 farmer-cooperators was interviewed. The ages of the respondents ranged from 24 to 71 years with an average of 53 years. <br/><br/> A greater number of the respondents attained only the primary level and had an average of 28 years in farming. Most of them were operating small farms and were supporting an average of 8 dependents. The major crops raised by the farmers were coffee, coconut, and banana. The average production before the implementation of the program was 79 cans of coffee, 6,015 pieces of coconut and 26,018 pieces of banana. The average production after the implementation of the program was 99 cans of coffee, 7,000 pieces of coconuts and 25,321 pieces of banana. There were considerable increases observed in the average production of coffee and coconut while a decrease in the average production of banana was noted after the implementation of the program. The average income of the farmers before the implementation of the program was 15,249.81. After the implementation of the program, the average income increased to 16,983.87. <br/><br/> However, results of the T-test and analysis of variance showed no significant difference on the income of farmers before and after the implementation of the program. The high cost of inputs was the main problem cited by the farmers followed by poor means of transporting farm products and occasional typhoons. Furthermore, insufficiency of facilities to apply modern farming techniques, delay in the release of loans and limited time of implementation constituted their secondary problems as regard the implementation of the program. <br/> |
