This study was conducted at the Agronomy r Experimental Area, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite from July, 1978 to February 1979 to determine the effectiveness of gramoxone in controlling persistent weed species; to evaluate the effect 02 toxicity of gramoxone to cassava plants; and to ascertain the economics of using gramoxone for weed control on cassava.<br/>On a well prepared 19215 square meter land, cassava cuttings measuring 30 centimeters long and treated with a fungicide insecticide mixture were planted at a distance of one meter by one meter.<br/>The treatments consist of hand weeding, application of the herbicide at one, two and three liters per hectare at one and two months after- planting; their various combinations; and a control 0 Other than the treatments assigned to them, all the plots received similar inputs such as stake treatment and fertilizer application.<br/>Results showed that the effectivity of gramoxone in controlling weeds was affected by prevailing weather conditions In the study, it was noted that intermittent rains occurring during the application of the herbicide considerably reduced the effectivity of the chemical in controlling weeds.<br/>From the economic standpoint of view a combination of gaamoxone applied one month after planting or earlier with hand weeding, would be more profitable than hand weeding twice.<br/> |
