REGIS, CHARLYNE ANDRADE. Perceived Effectiveness of the Programs and Services Implemented by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to Senior Citizens in selected Barangays of Silang, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017 Adviser: Prof. Emma G. Perey, RSW.
The study was conducted from January 2017 to March 2017 to determine the perceived effectiveness of the programs and services implemented by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) to Senior Citizens in selected Barangays of Silang, Cavite. It aimed to determine the following: (l) programs and services availed by the participants from MSWDO-Silang; (2) source of program information; (3) perceived effectiveness of the programs and services namely Senior Citizens ID/Booklet, Gift Giving, Social Pension Program, Health Services and Phil Heath coverage; (4) problems encountered in the programs/services; (5) recommendations for further improvement of the programs/services.
The participants of the study were forty-five (45) senior pensioners. They came from the two (2) selected barangays in Silang Cavite namely Barangay Kaong and Barangay Acacia. A questionnaire was used to gather data from the participants. Frequency, counts, percentages, and means were used to determine the programs/services availed by the Senior Citizens participants from the MSWDO-Silang, as well as on the source of program/service information
A five (5) point scale was used to measure objectively the effectiveness of the programs/services rendered by the MSWDO-SiIang. It was measured in terms of

percentage adopters. Then, open ended questions were used in determining the problems encountered and recommendations for further improvement of the programs and services.
The following programs and services were given to Senior Citizens namely Senior Citizens ID/Booklet, Gift Giving, Social Pension Program, Health Services and Phil Heath coverage were all availed by the participants. However, only one participant reported to have availed the Burial Assistance for her partner. The participants got their information from the staff/barangay senior citizen presidents and all the five (5) mentioned programs and services for senior citizens were deemed all effective. The most common problems encountered by the elderly during programs and services were inconvenience on the gift giving activity and inadequacy of medical supply in the barangay’s health facilities.
The common suggestions stated by the participants were additional health services, increase in social pension, and accessible gift giving activity.
|
