BAWAR, KALE MARK ROMAN B., and LUMBA, MARIA CRISTINA O.
Analysis of Potential Health Hazards among Employees of Registered hair salons in Cavite Undergraduate Thesis Manuscript. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Engr. Willie C. Buclatin.
This study was conducted to determine the hazards encountered by most employees of registered hair salon in Cavite.
Specifically, the study aimed to: Know the demographic profile of the participants in hair salons in Cavite; determine the potential health hazards experienced among employees of hair salons; identify the factors that has significant effect on the health of employees of registered hair salons; assess the protective measures taken by the workers in the hair salons; and distinguish the possible preventive measures to ensure the health and safety of employees in hair salons.
The study design used descriptive survey method. Two hundred twenty-three hair salons with the total number of 446 employees were included in the study. A self-made questionnaire was used as the data gathering tool.
Majority of the participants answered in the demographic profile on survey questionnaire are male and were single. Ages ranges from 26 to 30 years old was high amongst hair salon employees and most of the hair salon employees are non-smoker. The prevalence of Musculo-skeletal symptoms such as: hand, back, neck, upper body and
lower body pain are common among the employees in hair salons. Other health problems due to chemical exposure such as: skin damage/irritation, allergic reactions and eye irritation are also common among the employees in hair salons. It appears that most of the health problems related to respiratory symptoms were not caused by smoking, because health problems appear to be high among non-smokers. There was an increase in health problems with duration of employment- The employees mostly used aprons, latex, or rubber gloves as protective measures. The workplace environment should be optimized to make the environment as safe as possible- Employees should be kept aware of occupational hazards through continuous training and education of good work practices, procedures, and potential hazards related to product use, such as dermatitis, eye irritation and respiratory complaints.
|
