Carriaga. <br/>An automated fingerling counter was designed and developed at Cavite State University — Main Campus, Indang, Cavite. The testing and evaluation of the device took place at Tilapia Hatchery. Tanza, Cavite. The device is mainly composed of a hopper. ball valves, transition channel, chute, base, electronic components, and a power source. The counting mechanism utilizes a thru-beam pair composed of a light source (super bright LED), receptor (phototransistor), and a microcontroller (Gizduino ATmega328) to carry out the actual counting process. The performance of the device was only limited to the evaluation of its counting and device efficiency. Factors affecting the performance of the device, in terms of efficiency or accuracy, were observed. The fingerling counter was constructed according to the design specifications but has the inability to count fingerlings accurately and with high efficiency. Small size chutes yielded higher counting efficiencies than large diameter chutes. Only fingerlings with sizes 20 and 22 can be counted by the device. Counting using a 2-cm diameter chute with continuous supply of water obtained a higher value of 59.6 percent mean efficiency than counting with water supplied only once, which has a mean efficiency of 58.92 percent. Counting rate was not measured due to the instances of undrained fingerlings. Total fabrication cost of the device is P 5411.625.<br/>
