Summary, etc. ARVIOLA, MARJORIE JOYCE B. and DAUBA, ROCELYN N. Identification of Fnh and Crustacean Species and Water Quality Assessment of Timalan River Watershed, Cavite, Philippines. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2018. Adviser: Ms. Amyel Dale L. Cero. <br/>The study was conducted in Timalan River Watershed (TRW) from August 2017 to May 2018. Specifically, the study aimed to: (1) identify the different kinds of fish and crustacean species that can be found in the rivers of Timalan River Watershed; (2) determine the physico-chemical and biological properties of the rivers in terms of stream flow, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, TDS, salinity and fecal coliform; (3) determine the existing issues and problems related to the water quality of the rivers in the watershed; and (4) identify the conservation policies that are being implemented to protect the rivers of the watershed. Descriptive research was used in the study. The identification of fish and crustacean species were done through local fishermen, FISHBASE.ORG and sets of online literatures. In-situ water quality test and laboratory analysis were used to determine the physico-chemical and biological properties of the rivers of TRW. Key informant interview was conducted to determine the existing issues and problems, as well as policies and conservation measures, within Timalan River Watershed. A total of 26 fish species and 4 crustacean species were identified in Timalan River Watershed during the wet and dry season. Stream flow measurements of the rivers of TRW varied from 0.153 Ws to 201.708 1/s during the wet season while 0.058 1/s to 83.9291/s during the dry season. The deepest river measurement was obtained in Timalan Baisahan River 2 during the wet (0.01 to 2.15 m) and dry season (0.001 to 1.71 m). On the other hand, the shallowest measurement was obtained in Cabuco River 1 (0.01 to 0.015 m) during the wet season while Tres Cruses River 2 (0.01 to 0.16 m) during the dry season. The highest temperature was obtained in Tres Cruses River 2 during the wet (30.4°C) and dry season (34.17°C). The pH measurements during the wet season varied from 7.26 to 7.67 while 7.54 to 8.02 during the dry season. The lowest dissolved oxygen concentration was obtained in Cabuco River 1 during the wet season (4.8 mg/L) and dry season (4.47 mg/L). On the other hand, the conductivity varied from 219.33 uS/cm to 3500 uS/cm during the wet season while 375 uS/cm to 34226.67 uS/cm during the dry season. Total dissolved solids varied from 146.67 ppm to 2320 ppm during the wet season and 245 ppm to 22830 ppm during the dry season. While salinity varied from 110.67 ppm to 1726.67 ppm during the wet season and 197.67 ppm to 17113.33 ppm during the dry season. The highest conductivity, TDS, and salinity measurements were all obtained in Timalan Balsahan River 2. Higher fecal coliform concentrations in the rivers of watershed were observed during the wet season. The highest fecal coliform count was obtained in Cabuco River 2 (1.6x108 MPN/100 mL). Majority of the key informants stated that the water pollution was due to industrial, domestic and hospital wastewater discharge, unregistered poultries and piggeries near the rivers, lack of sewages plan and dumping of solid waste directly to the river water. The conservation policies implemented to protect the Timalan River Watershed were mainly focused on RA 9003 the "Ecological Solid Waste Management Program", quarterly clean-up drive, and tree planting along the rivers.
