Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2006. Adviser: Marcelino A. Dagasdas, Jr. <br/>The design project was conducted at Indang, Cavite from June 2005 to January 2006. It was presented on January 18, 2006 at the Information and Technology Center Room of the College of Engineering and Information Technology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. The design project aimed to enable the authors to apply their knowledge in surveying to obtain the length of the bridge. Specifically, the project aimed to: develop a soil profile of the area; distinguish the most economical type of pedestrian walk bridge; and prepare a complete architectural and structural plans and layouts, together with a miniature model of the most economical type of pedestrian walk and detailed cost estimate. Computer-Aided Structural Analysis and Design (STAAD Pro) software was used for the general analysis of the superstructure members. Ultimate Strength Design (USD) was used for the design of the roadway slab and abutments while Allowable Stress Design (ASD) was used for the design of the steel truss members, posts and floor beams. The pedestrian walk has a span of 40 m and a width of 3 m in which all are being supported by two floor beams. The bridge was designed to carry a pedestrian load of 4.07 KPa (85psf). The pedestrian walk, designed using steel members, was found to be the most economical type. Thorough analysis of the design guidelines, specifications and procedures necessary in the design of a pedestrian walk bridge was undertaken. The parameters used in the study were carefully studied and determined so as to arrive at an effective pedestrian walk bridge design. The project conformed with the principles and considerations in designing a pedestrian walk bridge. |
