<br/>The study "The Effect of Different Weedicides on the Growth and Yield of Corn" was conducted in Banaba Lejos, Indang, Cavite from October, 1981 to January, 1982. The study aimed to determine the effect of different weedicides on the growth and yield of corn and to find out which of the different weedicides will give the best controlling effect.<br/><br/>An area of 150 square-meter field was prepared thoroughly by the use of animal drawn implements. Two seeds were planted in each hill 35 centimeters apart in the rows and 15 centimeters between the rows. These were covered with fine soil. <br/><br/>Complete fertilizer was applied at the bottom of the furrows at planting while ammonium sulfate fertilizer was applied when the plants were knee-high. |<br/><br/>Imperata cylindrica (cogon), Cyperus rotundus (mutha), Rottboellia exaltata (aguingay), Echinochloa colonum (pulang puit), Commelina diffusa (alikbangon), and Amaranthus spinosus (uray) were the weeds growing in the field. . Pre-emergence application of weedicides like agroxone, 2,4-D ester, machete effectively controlled different weed species. However, mutha (Cyperus rotundus) was not controlled effectively by any of the herbicides used.<br/><br/> |
