BASCON, AIRA DWEIN V., FERRERA, KYLE ZAION M., DALINDIN, GILCHRISTIAN R. Tissue culture of Different varieties of Strawberry. Research Study. Laboratory Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2018. Adviser: Dr. Hosea Matel.
One of the primary goals of this study is to find out the effect of different levels of 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) in the growth of the two varieties of strawberry, namely Sweet Charlie and Japanese strawberries. BAP is a synthetic cytokinin which together with auxins elicits plant growth and development responses.
Four treatments with different levels of BAP were used in this study and four or five explants were used for each variety of strawberry. The shoots were sterilized following the protocol of Bhatt and Dhar with some modifications after transferring and sub-culturing, the shoots were measured using a 12-inch stainless steel ruler to determine the length of the leaves and shoot formations. The color of their leaves was assessed using a color chart while and the number of shoots in each replication were counted manually.
BAP is more effective on Japanese Strawberry in terms of length of shoot, average number of shoots, and average length of leaves. It has the better results than Sweet Charlie strawberry. Based on the color of leaves, Japanese strawberry produced leaves that are greener than Sweet Charlie strawberry. Generally, the two varieties of strawberry had different response on different concentrations of BAP probably due to difference in the age of the runner tips used as explants. The younger the explants used, the beer growth response it may have on the medium supplemented with BAR.
BASCON, AIRA DWEIN V., FERRERA, KYLE ZAION M., DALINDIN, GILCHRISTIAN R.
