BATBATAN, JURLEY JR, C. and LACBAYO, EMMANUEL T. Development of Front Wheel Drive Automatic Transmission and Transaxle Instructional Model. Undergraduate design project Bachelor in Industrial Technology, major in Automotive Technology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2018. Adviser: Mr. Danielito R. Escano.
Automatic transmissions are devices connected to the engine that sends power from the engine through the transmission to drive the wheels. A car engine usually runs best at specific revolutions per minute (RPM) and it’s the job of the transmission to make sure the power from the engine gets delivered to the wheels while staying within the specific range of revolution per minute. Generally, this study aimed to develop a front wheel drive automatic transmission and transaxle instructional model to be used by the automotive students who seeks to determine the performance of the transmission when subjected to acceleration.
The design project was effective to gather more information and knowledge for the future automotive students and made them more efficient to learn the idea on how the develop project operates and even enhance the skills through actual activities provider by the trainer. The project developed served as instructional model that provides front wheel drive automatic transmission and transaxle for the learners to effectively determine the performance of the transmission when subjected to acceleration. Using the tachometer, the learners could easily read the revolution per minute of the front wheel drive automatic transmission that the changes of speed happens while it is connected and operated by a 4k engine, and even enhance their skills through actual activities provided by the trainer.
The development of the design project started with the cleaning and reconditioning of the purchased front wheel drive automatic transmission and transaxle. To hold the weight and stability of instructional model. It was fully welded with different sizes of angular bar. Propeller shafting was connected through a universal joint that was fully welded to a steel plate attached in the flywheel. Universal joint for the sliding yoke was also welded well to an extended shafting. The extended shaft was inserted to a pillow block to secure the stability and strength and to eliminate the vibration coming from the engine.
It was proven effective in terms of giving technical knowledge and skills for the learners. The trainer was evaluated for functionality and reliability and based on the result evaluation. It was rated 4.65 interpreted as outstanding. Based on the obtained results, the authors recommended additional braces between the frames of 4k engine and the transmission, and metal skid wheel with lock to totally secure the stability of the trainer in any movement.
|
